IPL: Kochi to take Sourav Ganguly?
After being discarded in auction, former India captain Sourav Ganguly reportedly has a taker as Team Kochi, a new outfit, have approached the IPL governing council for his inclusion in the new outfit.
Ganguly, along with Mumbai captain Wasim Jaffer and Punjab pacer V.R.V. Singh were the only three Indian players to remain unsold at the end of the recently concluded auctions.
Media reports said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has okayed team Kochi’s request to have the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ in the side.
But there has been no official statement either from the player concerned or from the franchisee on the latest move.
IPL rules say that a capped player put up for auction, can only be bought through an open bidding process.
But Ganguly, also the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain, was not called by any bidder on his base price of 400,000 dollars n the auctions held in Bangalore 12 days ago.
