Hearing on Lalit Modi’s financial irregularities put off
New Delhi, Dec 13 (IBNS) The Board of Control for Cricket India’s three-member disciplinary committee, which was scheduled to resume hearing on Monday on financial irregularities against former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, put off the sitting by two weeks after request from the Modi camp.
The resumption of hearing was scheduled to take place here on Monday and Tuesday, but following the request of Modi’s attorney Mehmood Abdi, the matter was put off.
The next hearing is likely to be held on Dec 27 and 28, BCCI sources here said.
Abdi requested that hearing be put off following an accident of Modi’s advocate Swadeep Hora’s family.
Hora is supposed to cross-examine the witnesses in the alleged fraud against Modi.
The BCCI has acceded the request, sources said.
It is said that Hora’s son was injured in an accident on Friday in Jaipur and now he needed to stay with his son.
During the previous hearing on Nov 22, Modi had raised a technical point that the panel, probing charges of financial irregularities against him did not have the mandate of the Board’s AGM held on Sep 29.
The BCCI had convened a Special General Body Meeting here on Dec 11 and appointed the same three-man panel consisting of Arun Jaitley, Chirayu Amin and Jyotiraditya Scindia to continue the disciplinary proceedings against Modi.
Modi, now in abroad, has not attended in person any of the previous sittings of the panel.
