India bags 2 Tennis sixth gold medals at Asiad

India’s tennis pair Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh won the sixth gold for the country in the men’s doubles event while Sania Mirza and Vishnu Vardhan settled for the silver at the Asian Games here Monday.

Somdev and Sanam beat Chinese Maoxin Gong and Zhe Li of China at the Aoti Tennis Complex. The Indian pair won 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 in a super tie-breaker.

The gold came after Sania Mirza and Vishnu Vardhan settled for silver medal after losing the mixed doubles final 6-4, 1-6, 2-10 to Chan Yung Jan and Yang Tsung Hua.

Sania had won gold with Leander Paes in the mixed doubles in the previous edition of Asiad at Doha. She won a bronze in the singles event here.
