‘Konnagar’ lift Ruia Silver bridge trophy

Kolkata : Unfancied outfit ?Konnagar? from Hooghly, represented by Sajal Paul, Surojit Das, Sujit Sur, P Biswas and P Prasad lifted the inaugural Ruia Silver Cup collecting a total 175.31 Victory Points (VPs) in the ongoing 52nd Winter National Bridge Championship at Netaji Indoor Stadium Kolkata on Tuesday.

Ruia Silver Cup has been introduced for the first time in the National Bridge Championsip so that the lesser rated players also get a chance to show their skill.

?Konngar? were followed by ?SAIL Ispat? from Burnpur who became runners up in Ruia Silver with 161.08 VPs. SAIL who were at the seventh spot after two sessions on Monday, displayed fine brain work to take the second spot finally.

“Sail? were represented by G Chatterjee, Tapas Das, Saibal Sarkar, Sarada Prasad Sen, Manoj Dey and Chanchal Kushari.

Konnagar became richer by Rs 30,000 while SAIL got Rs.15,000 beside cups.

Meanwhile, in the main championship for Ruia Gold Cup Monday?s leader city based ? MMRMC? continute to remain at the top after fifth session with 104VPs.

Sunil Machhar?s team from Mumbai, who were at the third place on Monday further improved their position to be at the second spot with 96.48 VPs. They are followed by ?Formidables” of Delhi ( 91.90VPs), Poddar Developers, also from Mumbai (91.19 VPs).

“Indian Railways B? are at the fifth position with 88.3 VPs, however, they are being seen as likely to qualify for the quarter final rounds to be played from Wednesday in knock out basis.

After fifth round Railways B are being followed by Shree Cement (87.07VPs), “Team Vaneet? (86.34 VPs), C V Rao?s team (86.04 VPs), Dhampur Sugar (85.04 VPs) and India Blues ( 82.78 VPs).

Reigning champions Indian Railways, who are yet to prove their mettle, are now lying at the 14th spot with 79.33 VPs after the fifth round.

The quarter finals for the Ruia Gold Cup and qualifying rounds of Holkar Pairs will begin on Wednesday.
