M S Gill promises punishment for CWG scam guilty

New Delhi : Union Sports minister M S Gill has assured that those responsible for all the ?irregularities? in the recently concluded-New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010 shall be punished.

?During the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Government had assured the House that irregularities will be inquired into and the guilty punished,? he said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

In the wake of the shady events regarding the preparation of the Oct 3-11 Games, he said that the government was well aware that a number of concerns have been raised.

He said, the High Level Committee (HLC) headed by V K Shunglu is expected to go into a number of pointers that were were exploded publicly by national and foreign media causing much embarrassment to the the organisers of the games.

?Simultaneously the the Comptroller & Auditor General of India has started auditing all Games related projects and the expenditure of the Organising Committee (OC),? he said.

Both the reports are due in Jan. 2011, he informed.

He also informed the House that other agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement directorate and Income Tax authorities are investigating the alleged irregularities.

?As would be evident, we have taken several steps to address the concerns. I reiterate that all irregularities will be examined and the guilty will not be spared,? said Gill.
