Mohun Bagan coach tenders resignation

Kolkata : Mohun Bagan coach Stanly Rozario on Monday tendered his resignation letter, just a night after the green-and-maroon lost 0-2 to Churchill Brothers in I-League match in Goa.

Rozario joined Bagan in June 2010, and since then the side has not won any trophy. They even surrendered the Calcutta Football
League (CFL)-2010- in his tenure after holding it for three consecutive years.

It is not known immediately whether his quit letter is accepted or not.

This was Rozario’s second stint in the city after he was booted by East Bengal in 2008 after failing the side to win the Federation
Cup in which the red-and-gold lost to Bagan in a tie-breaker.

Rozario in his letter, however, thanked the team management for giving him the opportunity for shouldering the responsibility of soccer giants of the country.

He claimed that under him the team “performed extremely well and reached the finals of the Federation Cup by defeating top teams like
Salgaocar 6-1 and Dempo SC in the semis and lost to East Bengal due to referee?s poor decisions.

“In the Platinum Jubilee Cup, the team once again gave a wonderful performance by defeating Sheffield FC of England and lost via tie-breaker in the final match. In the Calcutta Football League, we stood runners-up. So in all three tournaments the Team stood Runners-up,” Rozario said in his resignation letter.

But due to injury problems of many players including Diamondstar have affected the side the team’s performance.

“Since Mohun Bagan is a formidable club and top contenders in Indian Football, I want the Team should bounce back and bring backthe winning attitude. So, in this point of time in the greater interest of the Club and the Team, I would like to step down from my
job as Chief Coach,” his letter read.

Mohun Bagan play their next match against Dempo SC on Thursday.
