Mumbai : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday said it will take decision on termination of Kochi Indian Premier League (IPL) team after the deadline for its owners to solve ?internal issues? ends on Nov 27.
The IPL Governing Council met here on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the fourth season of Twenty20 tournament.
?The IPL Governing Council over preparations for the fourth season of the Twenty20, while also deciding that the players’ auction will be held in Mumbai on January 8 and 9. We want to make the fourth season a bigger success,? BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla told reporters after the meeting.
“There was no decision on Kochi because they have been given one-month notice. A decision on Kochi will only be taken after November 27 after their one-month deadline expires,? he added.
On Oct 27, the Indian cricket board gave a last chance to the owners of Kochi’s IPL team by giving them a 30-day deadline to solve all their internal issues failing to which the franchise will be terminated.
BCCI president Shashank Manohar, after the Governing council meeting in Nagpur, said that the Kochi franchise’s breach was a remedial one and not like that of the other two teams Rajasthan Royals and the Kings XI Punjab.
?The Governing Council received replies from two parties, the Rendezvous group and the other co-owners, and they both felt that the dispute still exists,? said Manohar.
?The Governing Council has invoked clause 12 (1) and given them a 30 days notice that in case they don?t remedy these disputes in the 30 days, the franchise would stand cancelled on the 31st day,? he said.
Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals were ousted in October due to several violations of their contract with the BCCI.
