SAFF: Indian women beat Bhutan

Dhaka : India Senior Women?s team started their 2010 SAFF Women?s championship on a high hammering minnows Bhutan 18-0 in their opener played at the Cox?s Bazar Stadium, Bangladesh, on Monday.

Sasmita Mallick proved to be a nightmare for the Bhutanese defence as she scored seven goals, while Bala Devi was equally impressive and scored five goals. Tababi Devi bagged four goals, while Pinky and Amoolya too registered their name in the scoresheet scoring one goal each.

India dictated the terms right from the first whistle and pumped in ten goals in the opening half, while they escalated the form in the second half and scored eight more goals to give a perfect start to their SAFF Championship.

India, who are clubbed with Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the hosts Bangladesh in Group A will take on Sri Lanka in their second group league match on Dec 15, while they will play their final league match against Bangladesh on Dec 17.
