Sourav Ganguly gets PC Chandra Puraskaar

Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday was felicitated by the jewellery brand PC Chandra group, which awarded him the PC Chandra Puraskaar 2011.

Present on the occasion was former chief justice Shyamal Kumar Sen along with Vice Chairman of the PC Chandra group Binay Kumar Chandra and the Managing Director of PC Chandra group Uday Kumar Chandra.

Uday Kumar Chandra said, ?April 22 was the birthday of the founder of PC Chandra group, Purna Chandra Chandra. Every year we celebrate this day by felicitating a personality who is an icon in his own field.?

?This year on the occasion of the 117th birth anniversary of PC Chandra, we have chosen a great Bengali legend – Sourav Ganguly,? he said.

The first PC Chandra Puraskar was introduced in 1993, was given to singer Manna De for his contribution to music.

Along with the PC Chandra Puraskaar, every year a merit scholarship is given to the children of the employees? for academic excellence and long service award for veteran employees for their loyalty and service.

Former chief justice Shyamal Kumar Sen said, ?Purna Chandra Chandra founded the PC Chandra group in 1939, he was a lawyer before that. He proved that the conception of Bengalis to be less successful in business is wrong.?

?I think that this year they have chosen the right person for the PC Chandra Puraskaar, as Sourav was a remarkable captain. He took responsibility of the Indian team when it was going through tough times and brought it where it stands now,? he said.

Sen further added, ?Sourav had to face several struggles for his outstanding performance. He had to sacrifice many things for his team and country.?

?I am very proud to honor him as he showed that Bengalis can fight too,? he said.

Accepting the award Sourav Ganguly said, ?It is immense pleasure to receive this award. I am proud that I will stand along with all those legends who had received this prestigious honour. ?
