New Delhi : Bringing laurels for the country once again, Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar won the yellow metal for India in the World Wrestling Championship in Moscow on Sunday.
In a notable feat, Sushil overpowered his Russian counterpart Gogaev Alan 3-1 in men’s freestyle category.
He bagged two crucial points in the first period while his rival managed one putting the game in his favour, official sources said.
In the third period, the master wrestler pocketed three more points sealing the fate for his opponents.
Sushil Kumar is the second Indian to win an Olympic medal at Beijing Games in 2008.
Kumar had defeated Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan to win the bronze.
In July 2009, he was conferred the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award’ for his outstanding achievement as a sportsperson.
His first tasted success at the World Cadet Games in 1998 where he won the gold medal which was followed by a string of similar success stories.
