Tiger Woods?s PGA Tour run ends

Lemont, USA : Golfer Tiger Woods shot 1- under-par 70 on Sunday in the BMW Championship to tie for the 15th, eight points behind winner Dustin Johnson.

However, Woods will not be advancing to ?The Tour Championship?, his site said.

As a result, Woods finished 42nd on the FedExCup points list, with only the top 30 moving on Atlanta in two weeks.

This is the first time since turning professional in 1996 that he will miss ?The Tour Championship ?because he is not eligible.

He chose not to play in 2006 and was recovering from knee surgery in 2008.

“Obviously, I would rather be there,” said Woods. “I’ve played better than I have all this year. But it is what it is. I didn’t qualify.”

There have been many encouraging signs for Woods, who began working with swing coach Sean Foley at the PGA Championship last month.

Woods tied for 28th at the PGA, tied for 12th at The Barclays and tied for 11th at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

On Sunday at sunny Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, Woods overcame a rough 2-over start on the front nine to shoot a 3-under 33 on the back nine. He birdied three of the last five holes.

“I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made,” Woods said.

His next event will be representing the United States team in the Ryder Cup, Oct. 1-3, at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales.

Woods said he’s excited to compete and is looking forward to honing his game at home the next two weeks.
