Andhra cop, sacked for abducting officer, arrested
Hyderabad : A police constable dismissed for kidnapping an official was Monday arrested as he was preparing to take out a bike rally to expose corruption in the Police Transport Organisation.
K.V. Giri Prasad Sharma was produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. He was subsequently shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.
Sharma created a sensation last month by taking Superintendent of Police Lakshminarayana hostage at a shop near near Birla Planetarium in the heart of the city.
He had locked himself along with the hostage and threatened to kill him and also commit suicide if police tried to break open the door.
The hostage drama ended late on the night of Sep 12 when Sharma released the official after Director General of Police Dinesh Reddy promised to look into his demands, including action against an additional superintendent of police for allegedly harassing and suspending him.
Reddy, however, later dismissed Sharma, a constable with the Police Transport Organisation (PTO), from service.
The dismissed constable last week released a CD in which Lakshminarayana was seen drinking with him.
Sharma had also declared that he would come out with proof of corruption in PTO and would take out a bike rally as part of his campaign.
