PM announces Rs 400 cr relief to Andhra Pradesh
Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh on Tuesday announced Rs 400 crore as immediate relief to the cyclonic rains-affected farmers of Andhra Pradesh.
He also assured the delegation that expeditious action shall be taken on the reports of the Central team and based on their assessment, additional relief could be provided.
A delegation comprising various Members of Parliament from the state met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday and apprised him of the losses incurred by farmers in various regions of AP that suffered cyclonic rains recently.
The team complained that the unprecedented rains caused extensive damage to cotton crops and tobacco. They also apprised the PM of the crop losses incurred by paddy cultivators since export is not permitted.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minsiter Kiran Reddy had also met the PM a few days ago discussed the plight of the farmers in the state.
