Woman delivers stillborn baby at Chennai airport

A woman from Andhra Pradesh gave birth to a stillborn baby at the Chennai airport Thursday morning after she was denied permission to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur, airport officials said.

Shyamala, 36, who belongs to Rajahmundry, was stopped from boarding the Malaysia-bound private airlines flight on medical grounds as she did not have a proper medical certificate.

She was to join her husband who is working in Kuala Lumpur.

An argument broke out between Shyamala and the airline officials. An upset Shyamala later developed labour pains and she went to the rest room where she delivered a stillborn baby.

On being alerted by women in the airport, authorities rushed Shyamala to a private hospital here.

Hospital officials told IANS that Shyamala’s condition was stable but she was traumatised.
