With a doctor beaten to death by inmates of a Bihar jail, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered a high-level probe into the incident on Monday.
“It is a shocking incident. We won’t tolerate it. I have asked Bihar Home Secretary (Amir Subhani) to visit the district jail immediately. He will submit a report on the murder soon”, Kumar told reporters.
A doctor died on the way to a hospital after he was badly beaten up by inmates of the district jail in Gopalganj, Bihar on Sunday, officials said.
Physician Bhudev Singh died before he could reach the Patna Medical College where he was being taken to to after about seven prisoners attacked him. The reason for the attack was not immediately known.
A kidnapping convict reportedly instigated the incident, but FIRs were registered against all the seven involved, police said as they passed the buck on jail authorities saying the prison was not their jurisdiction.
An inquiry was ordered into the incident by the Bihar Home Secretary. The role of jail guards, who are supposed to supervise doctor visits, will be probed.
