Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh urges Maoists to release abducted cops

Raipur : With seven days elapsing since Maoists kidnapped four policemen from Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, state chief minister Raman Singh has urged for the unconditional release of the cops on humanitarian grounds.

?I appeal to the Naxals to release the policemen on humanitarian ground and without any pre-conditions,? reports quoted Singh as appealing on Saturday.

The chief minister met the families of the kidnapped cops on Friday.

The four cops were abducted on September 19 from Bhopalpatnam in Bijapur, bordering Andhra Pradesh.

Three more policemen were kidnapped along with these four and their bodies were recovered a day later.

Chhattisgarh police have launched a massive operation to trace the cops, with Andhra police also carrying out their separate operation.

The kidnapped cops are Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhruram Bhagat, Constables Narendra Bhosale, Subhash Patre and B Toppo.

Wife of a Special Police Officer is also in the captivity of the ultras, reports claimed.
