Congress in Goa will outperform Indian team Down Under: Shukla
The Congress will perform better in the March 3 Goa assembly elections than the Indian cricket team which was battered in Australia, said union minister and cricket board official Rajeev Shukla Thursday.
“Definitely!” said Shukla, who is minister of state for parliamentary affairs and the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) vice president, on being posed the question, but then added that cricket and politics were different.
Shukla was in Goa to rally voter support for the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance on the last day of election campaigning Thursday.
“But cricket and politics is different…. Being a politician is a round the year job where you consistently have to resolve, sort out problems of people,” Shukla said, when asked if the Congress candidates would perform better than the Indian national cricket team did in Australia.
“India has won so many series in the past and we have even won the World Cup, after that if we lose one or two series, we should not think like this… Team will definitely improve and in the Asia Cup we will perform better,” Shukla said, even as the Indian cricket team failed to win a single Test match in the Border-Gavaskar series, which began in December last year.
