Goa government rapped in drugs case
The Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday issued notices to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa government and law enforcement agencies on a petition by a students movement.
Goa unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI), last week had filed a petition in the High Court requesting the police-drugs nexus cases be investigated by the CBI, which the state Government is not willing to.
The double bench issue notices to the state Government, Goa Anti Narcotics Cell, Crime Branch and CBI returnable in three weeks.
Surendra Desai, counsel representing NSUI told the Court that since the Government failed to investigate into the cases, the petitioner had to move to Court. To this, Advocate General Subodh Kantak sought time to reply.
He said that there was no need to hurry as the cases were booked a year ago wherein seven police officials were arrested for corruption and conspiracy but were bailed out later.
Although, they have been suspended from the Goa police services, the department is yet to submit a report or chargesheet the case, which revealed their links with Israeli drug baron Yaniv Benaim alias Atala.
Atala?s jilted girlfriend Lucky farmhouse had shot him on spy-cam bragging his connection with the policemen. She also claimed that state Home Minister Ravi Naik?s son Roy was also involved in drugs trade as he frequented Atala?s home in Goa?s northern coastal belt.
Atala was arrested but jumped bail and escaped to his country. Even as in a recent report he was arrested in Peru, his extradition process to bring him to Goa is consuming time.
In yet another sting operation, police sub-inspector Sunil Gudlar was caught selling drugs to the two women who later confessed on conducted a sting on the policeman.
David Driham alias Dudu?s sister Ayala ad his girlfriend Zarina claimed to have conducted the sting operation on Gudlar in association with an Israeli media. In their statement to the police, the women said that they wanted to expose the involvement of police in the drugs trade.
Special Investigation Team is currently probing into this matter, which was earlier investigated by Crime Branch that failed to carry out a proper investigation in the Atala case as well.
