Jail guards caught looting a truck driver

Panaji : Four jail guards attached to the Central Jail at Goa’s Aguada were arrested on Panaji-Ponda highway Saturday late night, for attempting to loot a truck driver by assaulting him.

Ponda town police inspector C L Patil informed that the foursome- Ankush Naik, Vishal Naik, Keshav Naik and Dinesh Warang- were arrested at about 2:30am.

?The jail guards were caught assaulting and trying to loot a truck driver by stopping the vehicle on the highway. Police Control Room (PCR) van noticed the commotion and approached the truck when the foursome tried to escape but were caught,? he said.

The guards, dressed in black T-shirts and pants similar to any robbers to hide in the dark, were chased and caught a few distance from the incident spot, by the PCR van.

?The truck driver told us that the accused assaulted him when he refused to hand over his mobile phone and cash,? Patil said adding that the accused joined Jail administration services only last year.

Inspector General of Prisons Mihir Vardhan said that action has been initiated against the foursome and they will be soon placed under suspension.
