Alert lifeguards in Goa twice prevented a 40-year-old man from committing suicide at two different beaches Wednesday and later handed him over to police.
Rano Wagas from Maharashtra was stopped from committing suicide at the Benaulim beach, around 45 km from here, said a spokesperson for Drishti, a private beach management service.
“He was fully clothed and was walking straight into the sea. When we called out to him, he refused to return to the shore,” the spokesperson added.
This was Wagas’s second attempt at committing suicide.
“Earlier in the day, he tried to commit suicide at the Colva beach, (about five km from Benaulim), but there too he was shooed away by lifeguards,” the spokesperson said.
Police said the man was driven to suicide due to “family issues”.
