Russian tourist saved from drowning in Goa

A Russian tourist was saved from drowning by lifeguards at north Goa?s Ashwem beach, officials from a lifeguard service management said on Monday.

The tourist identified as Mula Usenko Bkrainy, 27, was swimming in the ?no-swimming zone? when she pulled by the underwater currents on Saturday.

?The tourist was swimming close to a point where the creek meets the sea and therefore into the track of rip current. Our beach lifeguards pulled her out on seeing her struggling to swim ahead,? Drishti Special Response Services spokesperson said.

The official said that earlier Mula ignored the lifeguards? warnings and continued to swim after which the lifeguards informed the tower and Jet Ski was launched to keep a watch on her.

?She struggled to swim ahead and shouted for help The Jet Ski which was already keeping a watch on her saved her with the help of Rescued Sled. She was brought back to the shore. We advised not to enter the non-swimming zone again,? he said.

Drishti Special Response Services has implemented and manages Surf Life Saving Goa, a professional lifeguard service. They cover 105 kms beach stretch of Goa and have carried out several hundred successful rescue operations.
