Ahmedabad, Aug 31 : Taking pot shots at the Congress-led Central government for delay in completion of Commonwealth Games (CWG) venues, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the venues won?t be ready in time even if the prime minister ?mops the floor?.
?I don’t know what is happening in the CWG (preparations). Even if the prime minister (Manmohan Singh) starts wiping the floor, the venues won’t be ready for the Games,? Modi said, inaugurating a new building in the civil hospital complex here.
Pointing that there was four years time to complete the CWG preparations, the chief minister said, ?But they are still struggling. They should have given it to Ahmedabad (Municipal Corporation), which would have built those stadiums in time.?
Reiterating his allegation that the Congress was using the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Gujarat, Modi quipped that even CBI cannot save the Central government from the ?CWG debacle?.
The CWG venues have repeatedly missed deadlines, with corruption charges in preparations of the Games mounting as the date for the Games in October draw closer.
The prime minister has taken upon himself to inspect all CWG venues and also constituted a special committee to oversee the preparations.
