Ahmedabad : In a stern warning, the Supreme Court asked Amit Shah to leave the state by Sunday morning till further orders.
“It is in your interest if you stay away from Gujarat,” the apex court said in its directive to the former Gujarat Home Minister.
The order came after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted by the Gujarat High Court to Amit Shah and sought an urgent hearing. CBI told the Supreme Court that Shah may tamper with evidence while on bail.
The Gujarat High Court had on Friday granted Shah bail, three months after he was arrested in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
Senior lawyer K.T.S. Tulsi, who appeared for CBI in the High Court, said that the investigating agency had filed the petition since it was wary of Shah tampering with the evidence.
The next hearing is on November 15.
