Terror threat: High alert in Gujarat

High alert has been issued across Gujarat following an intelligence report of a possible bomb blast in the state on Wednesday.

Security has been stepped up with Quick Response Teams (QRTs), Special Operation Groups (SOGs) and Chetak commandos been deployed at strategic positions.

“All forces in major cities and across the state have been put on ‘stand to’ mode following the terror alert issued by the Centre,” additional director-general of police (ADGP) (Law and Order) S K Sinha told media.

He said all vehicles are being thoroughly checked, especially at entry and exit points of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot cities.

Additional units of State Reserve Police (SRP) have also been deployed in these cities, while marine police have started patrolling the sea.

“Besides this, the centre has also alerted the Coast Guard which has already increased patrolling along the coastline,” Sinha said.

Intelligence agencies received an anonymous mail that said a bomb blast will be triggered in Gujarat on Wednesday.
