Auto rickshaw driver held in foreigner?s rape charges

Ahmedabad : An auto rickshaw driver from Rajasthan was arrested here on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a Taiwanese woman.

Joint police commissioner (sector I) Satish Sharma said that the auto rickshaw driver, identified as Punam Dhobi, a native of Bhilwara district in Rajasthan, has been held in connection with the sexual assault case on a foreign national in the city.

Police have registered a rape case at the Vastrapur police station on Monday based on a complaint filed by a friend of the victim.

The 22-year-old Taiwanese woman, working in a private sector firm here, was allegedly sexually assaulted by Dhobi on Monday night, who also fled with her mobile phone.

The auto rickshaw driver allegedly took the victim to a secluded spot after dropping the victim?s friend.
