Gujarat: Congress wins civic polls
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) : In a major setback to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Thursday won elections to the newly-formed Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC).
Congress bagged 18 out of 33 seats in the GMC that went to polls on Apr 19.
A total of 116 candidates contested for the 33 seats in the GMC that was formed in September 17, 2009 and includes 11 wards.
BJP has six, while Congress rules over two civic bodies in Gujarat.
