Afzal Guru asks SC to move him to JK jail

Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru has appealed to the Supreme Court to transfer him from a Delhi jail to one in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

According to reports on Friday, in his petition filed at the apex court, Guru said his family finds it difficult to travel to Delhi from Jammu and Kashmir to meet him and hence he wants to be shifted to a jail at his hometown.

Guru was convicted of masterminding the December 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament.

The Supreme Court sentenced him to death in 2004.

The sentence was scheduled to be carried out on 20 October 2006. But Afzal was given a stay of execution and remains on death row.
