Curfew has been clamped in parts of Srinagar on Friday for precautionary measures against trouble after the Kashmiri separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, was abused at a seminar in Chandigarh on Thursday.
The prohibitory orders have been imposed in five police station areas- Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safa Kadal, official sources said.
Police also put the hardline separatist leader, Syed Ali Geelani, under house arrest to prevent any move from him after he called a protest march soon after the Friday prayers.
Troubles began in some parts of Srinagar after reports of assault on Mirwaiz on Thursday.
The attack on Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq by some Hindutva outfits, was third on the Kashmiri leaders outside the state in two months.
The moderate Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Bilal Lone were assaulted in Chandigarh.
In a separate incident, police in a joint operation at Shopian recovered a large quantity of ammunition from a drain on Thursday.
Huge quantity of ammunition, RDX-explosive of about 8 kilos, three Chinese made grenades and cordex wire- about 10 meters were recovered at a place between Gundarvaish and Amarbugh under Shopian police station.
