Srinagar : A youth was killed and around fifteen were wounded when police resorted to firing to quell a stone-pelting mob, who part of a funeral procession defying the curfew in Anantnag town of south Kashmir on Saturday, taking the toll to about 97 since June 11, official sources said.
The residents of Nathpora in Khanabal areas in Anantnag violated curfew after the body of a 10-year-old boy, who was missing since Monday, was recovered from river Jhelum, police said.
The protesters carrying the body of Maroof Ahmad Nath were shouted slogans allegedly provoking a section crowds, who threw stones aiming at the security forces, who were maintaining order.
The security forces fired after lofting tear gas shells which failed to quell the mob and resulted in death of the youth, alleged the local people, who later blocked traffic on the roads.
