Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday raided various houses located in Down Town area of Srinagar to apprehend youths allegedly involved in stone-pelting, arson and violence.
While talking to IBNS, Superintendent of Police (North), Showket Hussain, asked such youths to surrender before police.
According to sources, the police have launched a manhunt to nab at least 80 such youths of Down Town area of Srinagar, who played a key role during the recent unrest and indulged in stone pelting on large scale.
Police raided Nawab Bazar, Syed Hamid Pora, Dabatal, Saliah Masjid, Gunz Khud, Chamardoori, Gilkardoori, Rahbab Sahib and Aali Kadal areas of Srinagar.
Meanwhile, Yawar Nazir Wani, a student, and Bilal Ahmed Kucchey,a driver by profession- both from Nawab Bazar- presented themselves before the police after repeated raids on their residences.
The relatives of these youths said they are innocent.
Confirming the police raids, Hussain told IBNS that police is in search of those 30 to 40 youths, who were involved in stone pelting.
He said the police have already lodged FIR?s against such youths and most of them have been arrested.
The SP North appealed the fugitives to present themselves before the police.
The Valley had been witness to widespread unrest since mid-June last year when clashes had broke out between security personnel and stone-pelting mobs, which has claimed 110 lives so far.
