A Kashmiri man set himself on fire inside the premises of a government hospital in Srinagar on Thursday, said the police.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said the 29-year-old man doused himself in a flammable liquid Thursday morning inside the SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.
He then set himself on fire.
Jammu and Kashmir Healh Department recently showed the door to the dozens of employees working on voluntary basis in SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.
These employees held a protest on Thursday and during this, an employee, Aadil Ahmed Magrey, a resident of Zaldagar, Srinagar set himself on fire.
The timely intervention of people saved the life of the youth said the police.
At least 50 people, including some teenagers, witnessed this event and they even attempted to help the man by throwing their coats on top of him in an effort to put out the flames.
Aadil suffered burns to his face and arms and he is out of danger, said the police.
Recently dismissed casual labourers are demanding continuation of their services.
A casual labourer told IBNS that they will continue to protest till the government did not meet their demands.
