National Conference activist shot dead in curfew-free Kashmir

Srinagar : A ruling National Conference (NC) member was shot dead by militants in Kashmir on a day there was no curfew restrictions in entire valley, officials said on Saturday.

Ghulam Mohammad Rather, 60, was shot dead at Aglar village of Shopian district by the terrorists on Saturday, police said.

He was shot at the chest and head as he succumbed on way to hospital.

Earlier, police said preceding night (Friday) passed off peacefully.

“There are no reports of any untoward incident from any place so far. Situation at this hour is normal and under control throughout Kashmir valley,? said the Jammu & Kashmir Police.

?Meanwhile, there are no curfew restrictions in any place of the valley today,? the police added.

At least 108 people were killed in anti-India protests led by the separatists in Kashmir since June 11, prompting the Centre to initiate talks with the various groups in the state, propose greater autonomy and depute an all-party delegation to the Valley.
