Need to consult with centre on NCTC: Omar Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday said he would give his views on the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) only after consulting with the central government.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a public meeting in north Kashmir’s Magam town, 30 km from summer capital Srinagar, Omar said there have been no consultations between the state and central governments on the proposed NCTC.

“It would not be proper for me to voice my views about NCTC in public before I have private consultation with the centre on this issue,” said Omar Abdullah.

Responding to a question on Kingfisher Airlines which has seen many flight disruptions in the past few days, Omar said: “There is a difference between a flag carrier and a regular carrier.”

“Airlines have been in trouble in the past as well. Some of them were grounded permanently. Our concern is that the Jammu & Kashmir Bank Limited has stakes in the Kingfisher Airlines,” said Omar.

Omar also said the forthcoming state assembly session beginning in winter capital Jammu Thursday would be ‘stormy’.

“I expect the session to be stormy given the fact that we have a destructive opposition in the state,” he said.
