No curfew in Kashmir; cop, civilian killed
Srinagar : The entire Kashmir Valley remained free from curfew on Friday, while a civilian and a cop were killed by militants in separate incidents.
?There are no curfew restrictions in any place of the Valley today,? said the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
Meanwhile, in Shopian, one civilian was killed by militants.
?At Aglar area of district Shopian, unknown militants fired upon one Ghulam Mohammad Rather, aged e 55-60 years, causing his on-spot death. We have taken cognizance of the matter and further investigations are on,? said the police.
In another incident, some miscreants surfaced at Cement bridge Baramulla, and attempted to disrupt peace by resorting to stone pelting on police by placing barricades on main road leading to Baramulla town.
The police, however, claimed to have exercised utmost restraint while dealing with the situation.
?Miscreants were chased away and situation in the area was brought under control,? said the police.
In a similar incident at Gojwara Chowk in Srinagar, miscreants, after Friday prayers, resorted to stone pelting on police deployments.
?No one was hurt in both of the incidents,? said the police.
In a separate incident, Police Sopore and 52 RR of Army, acting on a specific information about the presence of armed militants in village Naseem Bagh Kranki Shiwan area of Sopore, launched a joint operation early Friday morning.
?As per the initial reports one policeman identified as Selection grade Constable Mohammad Rafiq No. 363 of JKAP 7th Bn, received serious bullet injuries.
?He later succumbed to his injuries,? said the police.
One unidentified militant was also killed in the encounter.
Search operations were going on in the area when the last reports came in.
At least 108 people were killed in anti-India protests led by the separatists in Kashmir since June 11, prompting the Centre to initiate talks with the various groups in the state, propose greater autonomy and depute an all-party delegation to the Valley.
