No curfew in Srinagar, restrictions in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 4 : Curfew was lifted from Srinagar and north and central Kashmir on Saturday, while preventive restrictions were imposed only in southern parts of the Valley on Saturday, the police said.

?There is no curfew or any restriction in Srinagar and in north and central Kashmir. Preventive restrictions have been imposed only in Pulwama and Anatnag towns of south Kashmir,? said a senior official of state police.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani called a shutdown across the Valley on Saturday as a part of the separatist group?s ?Quit Kashmir? campaign.

The shutdown crippled normal life in Kashmir with closure of shops, educational institutions, offices, banks and post offices across the Valley.

Only a few public vehicles were seen plying while all private ones remained off the roads in Srinagar.

Kashmir Valley has been on the boil since mid-June with 64 people killed till date as a result of clashes between stone-pelting mobs and security forces, who regularly have to restore to firing to control the situation.
