Omar speaking language of separatists: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday lambasted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over purportedly raising concerns about the BJP youth wing?s plans of hoisting the tricolour at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

Abdullah on Wednesday called on Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and apprised the latest law and order situation arising out of proposed Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s (BJYM) “Ekta March” in the state on the Republic Day.

The party has planned to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk on Jan 26, which has evoked lot of tension in the Kashmir Valley. The J&K government was not willing to allow the rally in the state as a precautionary measure.

Reacting strongly, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said, ?We would like to tell that there is no need for us to take a certificate from anyone to hoist Tiranga (tricolour).?

He said that the purpose of hoisting the national flag at Lal Chowk by BJYM was to ?ensure unity and integrity of the country and to maintain peaceful atmosphere?.

Demanding that the Chief Minister welcome the movement and not oppose it, Hussain said, ?The Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir is speaking the language of separatists.?

Kshmir has been experiencing subdued tensions after the valley witnessed spiralling anti-India protests in 2010 with more than 100 people dying in street riots.

The government later appointed three interlocutors to ascertain the situation and talk to various groups of people.
