Five Maoist guerrillas allegedly involved in the killing of 13 policemen in January were arrested in Jharkhand’s Garwah district Wednesday, police said.
According to police, the five Maoists were arrested from Chatania and Parswar villages of Garwah district, around 130 km from Ranchi, in a joint anti-Maoist operation of the state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to a police official, four of the arrested Maoists – Arjun Yadav alias Arjan, Mohan Yadav, Surendra Prasad and Manish Prasad Gupta – were named accused in the Jan 21 massacre of the policemen. The fifth arrested Maoist, Deb Sagar Yadav, was also suspected to be involved in the massacre.
Thirteen policemen were killed in a Maoist ambush at Bhandaria, Garwah district Jan 21.
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of Jharkhand.
