Maoists kill Jharkhand police officer Satanand Singh

Dumka (Jharkhand) : A police official was killed and two constables were wounded in an encounter with the Maoists in the hilly regions of Jama block in Jharkhand’s Dumka district on Friday, police said.

Deputy Inspector General of Police B K Pandey said the officer-in-charge of Jama police station, Satanand Singh, fell to bullets during the gun battle in jungles of Jama block early on Friday morning.

Two others, including a constable of Special Task Force, Ravi Shankar, were injured in the firing from the Maoist guerrillas.

As gun fight has been continuing, the reinforcement moved from Ranchi to assist the combat policemen.

The Maoist offensive comes within a week after the rebels shot dead eight Bihar policemen at Lakshisarai district.
