BJP largest winner in Karnataka polls
Seen as a litmus test for Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka notched up 12 of the 30 district panchayats in Karnataka, emerging as the single largest winner despite a fractured verdict.
Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) won four each while there was no clear winner in the other ten.
BJP also won 68 talukas (sub districts) of the total 176, followed by Congress’s 31 and JD-S’s 29. In the rest there was a hung verdict.
The results of the polls held on Dec 26 and 31 were declared on Tuesday.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa thanked the voters saying the people gave a good reply to the opposition which tried to corner him on “baseless” corruption issue.
