BS Yeddyurappa supports Anna Hazare

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who himself was allegedly involved in a land scam case, on Friday came out in full support to social activist Anna Hazare, who is undergoing fast-unto-death to pressure the government over drafting a fresh anti-corruption ombudsman bill.

“Time has come for enactment of such a legislation to eradicate corruption in the country,” Yeddyurappa told reporters here.

Yeddyurappa recently was given a clean chit by his party in an alleged land scam.

An auto-components manufacturing company, which has the Chief Minister?s sons BY Raghavendra and BY Vijeyendra as directors, was allotted a two-acre plot in Jigani industrial estate on the outskirts of the capital city in 2007 when Yeddyurappa was the Deputy Chief Minister.

Raghavendra, also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha member, was also allotted a prime 4,000 sq ft government plot in Bangalore in 2009.

Besides, Yeddyruappa was also accused of favouring his Cabinet ministers R Ashoka and Katta Subramanya Naidu in land deals.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, as the standoff between the civil society led by a fasting Hazare and the government continued, the ruling Congress party on Friday said they agreed to everything except a legal notification on the Jan Lokpal Bill drafting committee since it can set an anti-parliamentary democracy precedent for future.

Hazare, on the other hand, hardened his stance and called for a Jail Bharo (Fill up the jails) movement.
