Bangalore : Veteran actor Hema Malini on Thursday won Rajya Sabha bypoll from Karnataka.
While 106 MLAs voted for her, 94 didn’t cast their votes in her favour.
On Feb 21, Malini filed her nomination here as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.
She was accompanied by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and BJP?s state unit president K.S. Eshwarappa, to the state secretariat Vidhana Soudha, where she filed her nomination before Returning Officer S.B. Patil.
The Election Commission held a bye-election to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka on March 3 to fill up the vacancy created after the death of Janata Dal (S) leader M Rajasekhara Murthy on Dec 6, 2010.
While BJP guaranteed her victory, Malini will get only one year term remaining of Murthy. Her term will be over by April next year.
The Dream Girl disclosed her assets where she has 3,779 gms of 22 carat gold, 969.86 gms of 18 carat gold, 25.51 kg of silver and 116.850 carat diamonds with total market value of more than Rs 1.39 crore as on December 31, 2010.
The 62-year-old actor has four houses/flats with a total worth Rs 35.8 crore, as per the information provided by her while filing her nomination.
Malini has four cars including a Mercedez Benz, and other assets valued over Rs 23 crore.
She has a liability of around Rs 17 crore-an outstanding loan amount to be cleared with IDBI Bank and ICICI Bank.
