Police baton on cricket fans in Bangalore

The World Cup ticket sales turned into a disaster in true sense after police used batons on Thursday morning to disperse the agitated cricket fans, who had assembled to buy ticket at the Chinnaswamy stadium here for India-England World Cup match on Sunday.

Earlier, the ICC had shot an angry letter to Sharad Pawar for the ticket sales disaster.

Bangalore has been awarded to host the crucial match after the International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken away match from Eden Gardens in Kolkata citing “incomplete stadium.”

Police used batons as hundreds of fans became unruly when ticket windows shut quickly depriving of the tickets for which many were camping since night.

The stadium has 40,000 capacity but only 8,000 tickets were up for sale.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) wrote a strong letter to its president Sharad Pawar, who is also the Chairman of the World Cup Central Organising Committee, for the ticketing disaster.

The ICC had said tickets were in short supply.

The ICC could not share tickets for matches for its sponsors, who are entitled to complimentary tickets.

ICC said it was unhappy over the fact that people who have bought tickets months ahead online from Kyazoonga.com, the official ticketing partner for the event, were yet to receive them.

The website on Tuesday crashed and hence no ticket was sold.

Media reports quoting the site officials said about ten million people were trying to buy just 1000 tickets causing the crash.
