Woman killed in Bangalore mock fire drill

A mock fire drill turned tragic in Bangalore Friday when a 25-year-old woman participant fell to her death, police said.

The woman, identified as Nalini, a garment factory worker at Peenya industrial estate in north Bangalore, suffered severe head injuries as she fell from the third floor of the factory building and died on way to a hospital, a police spokesperson told reporters.

He said eyewitnesses told police that the rope which was tied to Nalini snapped as she was coming out of the window of the third floor and she fell down on the hard pavement.

The spokesperson said it appeared there was no safety net leading to the tragedy.

He said probe has been ordered and a case of negligence against fire department officials will be registered.
