Yeddyurappa in New Delhi to garner support after spat with Guv HR Bharadwaj
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa arrived in the national capital on Sunday to explain his position before the BJP central leadership and take to the President of India his feud with Governor HR Bharadwaj over the alleged land scams.
Yeddyurappa, who reached New Delhi Sunday afternoon, said he will meet the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders later in the day.
He is also expected to ask for an appointment with Union Home minister P Chidambaram, especially after Saturday?s unflattering remarks by Chidambaram on the violence during the BJP-sponsored Karnataka shutdown that day.
Yeddyurappa said the BJP MPs from Karnataka will call on President Pratibha Patil on Monday and explain the party?s stand on the state governor.
The chief minister also claimed that he had not uttered anything wrong against the Governor.
Governor Bharadwaj had sanctioned prosecution of Yeddyurappa in alleged land scams, defying a state Cabinet resolution urging Bharadwaj not to grant permission to prosecute the chief minister.
Rejecting the Cabinet?s resolution, the Governor, while allowing prosecution, had said the pressure on him by the Cabinet amounted to ?the thief admonishing the police?, which had drawn further criticism from Yeddyurappa.
Yeddyurappa, rejecting resignation, had called the government an ?agent of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance ? the Congress-led coalition in the Centre)?.
The BJP had called a state-wide shutdown on Saturday, during which widespread violence was reported.
The chief minister is also facing two criminal cases filed against him before the Lokayukta special court on Saturday.
The spat between Bhardwaj and Yeddyurappa has been going for months after the latter survived no-motion confidence motion in the Assembly following rebellion among the party legislators and some independents.
