Independent Kerala legislator resigns

Thiruvananthapuram : Nearly two week after his threat to sever links with the ruling Communist Party of India- Marxist(CPI-M), independent legislator Manjalamkuzhi Ali of the Kelara Assembly on Tuesday tendered his resignation letter to the office of the Speaker, K Radhakrishnan, assembly sources said.

Ali had been a CPI(M)-backed independent lawmaker representing the Mankada segment of Malappuram district.

On October 11 he had announced to severe ties with the ruling Left Democratic Front(LDF), headed by the CPI(M).

Ali, known as a blue-eyed boy of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, had differences with the Pinarayi Vijayan faction, which controls the party in the state.
