Maharastra will attain No 1 position : Prithviraj Chavan

Pune : The new Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday said he would make the state attain number one position in the country.

Chavan was addressing the UGC?AIU All India Vice Chancellors? Conference and the 85th Annual Meeting of the Association of Indian Universities inaugurated at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University here on Friday.

In his first public meeting after the swearing-in ceremony, Chavan said ?I along with my alliance partners will give top most priority to education, health and development of infrastructure in the state of Maharashtra.?

He further said: ?The expansion in this sector is phenomenal but we have to fight many challenges like inflation, growing population, water security, health and global warming. We have to meet these challenges.?

?As the chief minister of Maharashtra, I will take up the challenge to make this state, a state full of aspirations and give positive thrust by which Maharashtra should attain the number one position in the country,? Chavan added.

Chavan, former central minister with a clean image and known for his proximity with the Gandhis, on Thursday took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, replacing a housing scam-tainted Ashok Chavan.
