27 people killed as tempo hits mini-buses in Maharashtra
27 people were killed and 20 people were injured when speeding truck hit two stationary mini-buses when buses passengers are way back from a wedding on the Mumbai to Pune Express highway near Khalapur. Tragic accident occurred on today, Monday morning.
The people who has been injured have taken to the hospitals in Mumbai and Pune.
According to police, the accident occurred in midnight when one of the mini-buses had technical problem and then both buses stopped in roadside for rectifying the problem. At that time, the loaded truck hit to these two buses.
Many of the passengers, who were sleeping, in the buses were killed on the spot. The truck also crushed others who were waiting for other bus.
One of the bus drivers told mediapersons that the passengers were taken completely unawares when the speeding truck hit the buses and a majority of the victims were killed instantaneously.
Officials from the state highway authority said this was by far the biggest accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway since it was opened to traffic 12 years ago. However, there has been no official confirmation of this.
