Maharashtra Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari was suspended on Thursday by Governor K Sankaranarayanan for his alleged involvement in the Adarsh Society housing scam.
The suspension comes within two days of the Governor making a reference on Tiwari?s suspension to the Supreme Court over making an inquiry in the matter. Pending its outcome, Tiwari stands suspended.
A defiant Ramanand Tiwari had refused to step down after the state government asked him not to attend office over his involvement in housing scam, where apartments meant for Kargil heroes’ families were illicitly allotted to Indian powerbrokers.
Tiwari?s son Onkar had received a flat in the controversial housing complex. The Information Commissioner himself is accused of giving major clearances to Adarsh Society.
