Blue alert against Lalit Modi

A blue alert, which bans travel completely, has been issued against former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi by the Enforcement Directorate, reports said on Thursday.

The ED’s Mumbai wing issued the blue corner notice with effect from Oct 1 for his alleged involvement in Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations, reports in media said.

The alert means he can be intercepted and checked thoroughly before any foreign travel and can be detained in any port of embarkation and disembarkation.

Modi, facing charges of Income Tax fraud as the IPL commissioner and chairman, is hounded by the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and its disciplinary action committee.

The alert was issued after Modi failed to turn up before the ED for interrogation, reports said.

Last month Lalit Modi suffered a set-back after the Bombay High Court dismissed his petition to reconstitute the Disciplinary Committee set up by the BCCI to look into the corruption charges levelled against him.

Modi had filed a petition in the High Court asking for the recusal of Arun Jaitley and Chirayu Amin from the Disciplinary Committee.
