Cargomen strike at Mumbai airport
Mumbai : The cargo operations in India’s busiest airport, Mumbai, were severely affected after some 9000 workers resorted to a flash strike on Friday.
” We struck work after the airport authorities cared very little of our constant warnings about lack of safety and basic amenities, infrastructure and other issues,” the cargomen alleged.
Nearly all the 9000 contract workers of different cargo handling agencies at the Mumbai airport have joined the strike, aviation and police sources said.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), a private agency, is responsible for providing the basic amenities at the cargo terminal.
No immediate report was available on the impact of the strike on the flight schedules at the airport.
